TIPS FOR GLASTAR ENTRIES

Picture
If you're new to entering the GLAStar Awards or are just looking for ways to improve you awards,
you've come to the right place!

THE BASICS!  (SCROLL DOWN FOR TIPS FOR BETTER ENTRIES)
Step 1: The first step is to determine which categories you want to enter!  You can go to the GLAStar Categories page to see the categories and what's required for each category.  Click on the name of the category (blue button) to see the form.  The form will explain what's needed as well as give the instructions for payment for the entry.  This is also explained below.
PLEASE NOTE:  GLAStar and Prism Awards are using the same forms this year.  Only members of the Detroit Metropolitan Apartment Association (DMAA) are eligible to enter the Prism Awards.  If you're a member of one of the other local associations, you'll want to check the GLAStar Only box.  If you're entering the Prism Awards, you only need to submit the form once and it will get entered in both awards.  If you have any questions regarding which box you should check, contact tracy@pmamhq.com.
Register and pay for your entry.  The easiest way to register and pay for your entry is online.
For GLAStar Only Entry ($40), go to https://tinyurl.com/GLAStarEntry2022
For PRISM/GLAStar Entry ($75 - only open to DMAA members), go to
https://tinyurl.com/PrismEntry2022
If you don’t have access to a credit card to make payment, you can email Tracy at tracy@pmamhq.com and give the name of the categories you want to enter.  We will invoice you and you can pay by check.  However, payment must be made prior to the entry deadline.

Step 2:  Gather the information.    You’ll need to answer the questions on the application form.  Many of them require references.  If you don’t have time to complete the entry form right away, consider asking for the references now so they’ll be ready when you are.  You can also assign someone to take pictures or answer some of the questions.

Step 3:  Prepare the Entry.  You have a choice of how to submit your entry.
1. EITHER…Complete the top of the Application form and answer each of the nomination questions on the fillable document in 200 words or less (This is the same as the previous years.)  Please note that your application form with attachments can NOT exceed the application form plus five (5)  additional 8 ½ x 11 pages (Ten (10) additional pages for the STAR categories).  If you complete the application form this way, you can include a YouTube video link.  The video for the paper entry cannot exceed two minutes.

2.OR…Complete the top of this Application form and submit a video (five minutes or less) answering the application questions.  Yes, starting in 2019 the entire entry can be submitted using a video.  However, the applicant/nominee information must be completed on this form.  If references are required, you can submit your references
either by video or paper.

Step 4:  Complete the checklist.   Ensure that your entry is complete by completing the
checklist at the end of the entry for either paper or video depending on how you’re submitting.

Step 5:  Submit your Entry.  Submit your paper or video entry along with any attachments to tracy@pmamhq.com along with a jpeg photo to be used in the slide show at the awards gala.  In the subject line of the email include whether you’re entering GLAStar only or Prism/GLAStar (only DMAA members can enter as Prism/GLAStar) along with the Category Code, Category Name, and Nominee Name. (Example: Prism-  IND1  Assistant Manager of the Year  First Name Last Name).   Please note that each email is limited in total size to 24MB. If any of your emails are over the size limit, they may not be received by the committee and will not be judged.

TIPS FOR BETTER ENTRIES
Picture
A picture's worth a thousand words! There are a lot of entries that ask for pictures as part of the entry. Start the process early to increase the likelihood of getting the perfect picture. Consider using more than the minimum number of photos required if you can do it within the space limitation. Last year, some entries included photo collages with multiple photos on a page.

Plan Ahead! There are a lot of ways to make your GLAStar Entries more competitive. Most of the winning entries last year included stories about the nominees. Our judges read through a lot of entries in a short amount of time. If you can tell a story that will make your entry stand out, a story that will make the judges feel like they know the nominee, it goes a long way to getting a winning entry! Now would be a great time to start asking your co-workers and residents for stories you can use in your entry!
Picture
Use your team! There's a reason for the saying "teamwork makes the dream work!" If you can give each member of your team part of the entry, it not only makes it easier to finish, it gives everyone a great feeling that you did it together!

What makes you unique? One of the most important things you can do in your GLAStar entry is let the judges know what makes you or your property unique. The judges read through a lot of applications. If you can make your application stand out, you have a much better chance of winning.

Do 1 Thing – The best way to avoid the last-minute crunch of getting your award application in by the deadline is to break up the tasks over several weeks. Even doing something as small as answering one of the questions this week or taking some photos will make it easier to finish the application when it’s due!
Picture
You have to enter!  The first rule of awards...you can't win if you don't enter!
Picture
NO EXCUSES!  It's easy to find a reason to put off starting your GLAStar entry. Find a reason not too! Getting started is the hardest part. It all gets easier from there!
